My Techniques and Beliefs:Early in my career, I was trained in the western classical style where I learned a strong technical foundation based on breathing, ease of phonation and vocal chord dexterity.
As my education and experienced continued, I was able to branch into Musical Theater (Mix and Belt) Jazz, Pop, Country and Rock styles and sang easily in all of these styles with the foundation I had learned. I believe that good technique is the foundation for all styles, and once you have a foundation you can branch out in to the style that you are best suited for. Below are few of the standards that I cover with my students:
I've been teaching well over 30 years and have continued my education in different techniques - most recently becoming certified in the Evidence Based Voicework Pedagogy Program.

What is Evidence Based Voicework? Evidence-Based Voice Specialists follow simple principles of teaching based in relevant areas including voice science, singing voice, sports science, cognition and learning, medicine, speech and hearing, acoustics, psychology and historical voice pedagogy.
Evidence-Based Voice Specialist skills include teacher expertise based in vocal technique and health, musicianship, language, stylistic accuracy and artistry as well as the ability to efficiently identify and formulate solutions to technical challenges. Evidence-Based Voice Specialists follow student goals/perspective with prioritization of the interests, values, need and choices of the individuals we teach. This requires voice teachers to take a collaborative approach. it also requires empathy toward physical, emotional and mental factors in a voice lesson. What this means for my students - a broader knowledge, new techniques to support more contemporary music styles and expectations & more scientific muscle based work which all leads to better, more stable voices!
